Adam Sayne on THE AP STRANGE SHOW

I recommend checking out the latest episode of THE AP STRANGE SHOW in which Matthew M. K. Hopewell interviews CONSPIRINORMAL host Adam Sayne in a freewheeling conversation Hopewell describes as "a paranormal jam session, with lighthearted chat about some of the more insane conspiracy theories, personalities within ufology and ghost hunting, and the ways these narratives overlap and inform beliefs more broadly. From Flat Earth and Tartaria to organic robotoids, the Nephilim, and Bigfoot, [we] run the gamut of fringe topics--and end with a look at demonology, and the long shadow cast by Ed and Lorraine Warren over paranormal investigation." PRAISE FOR THE EXPECTANT MOTHER DISINFORMATION HANDBOOK:

"Robert Guffey’s The Expectant Mother Disinformation Handbook is weirder than parthenogenesis, weirder than the Republican Party, weirder than the fetishizing of pregnancy that suffuses our culture, weirder than all the back issues of Weird Tales combined. You will laugh, gasp, and scratch your head in pleasurable bemusement. I can’t recommend this tongue-in-cheek tour de force too highly."

—James Morrow, award-winning author of Only Begotten Daughter and Behold the Ape

"Here it is. THE perfect baby-shower/gender reveal party gift. Forget all the binkies, blankies, cute little onesies, and diaper-service subscriptions. Those are so overdone and boring. Want to make a REAL impact? This book. This book right here [...].

"Well-written, lively, engaging, easy to read, and tons of fun. If I were a truly evil imp with plenty of money, I’d sneak copies into every OB/GYN office and ‘Parenting and Family’ bookstore section in the country."

Christine Morgan, award-winning author of Spermjackers from Hell and Lakehouse Infernal

"We've got plenty of people who think that they know best--better even than a given pregnant woman. We don't need more of them, but we could damn well use more examples of them turned into buffoons just like we get to see in the Handbook [...]. [The Expectant Mother Disinformation Handbook] is often weird, often funny, frightfully well written, and it gives us that unique satisfaction that only fiction can provide by putting the bastards into a magic circle of their own disinformation and locking them away. Isn't it sweet to think that they'd stay there."

Bill Elder's Journal: Two-Part Satanism Special (1988)

In the wake of my recent CryptoPosts regarding the perennial fascination with Satanism among the far-right (click HERE and HERE), a correspondent sent me a link to Bill Elder's infamous two-part news report about slavering hordes of Satanists running rampant in Louisiana in the late 1980s. This one has it all: cattle mutilations, Walpurgisnacht sacrifices, homicidal trucks, cult initiations, college professors, voodoo rituals, gris-gris ladies, blood-filled goblets, black masses, hypnotized virgins, Catholic exorcists, sexual orgies, 50,000 corpses, overbearing sheriffs, razor-wielding dogs, Satanic baby snatchers, gun-toting journalists, 10,000 souls trapped in Hell, daycare centers overrun with organized child molesters, Lay's Crunch Tators, Delchamps Super Stores, DuraSoft Colors Contact Lenses, toad killers, Health and Human Resources, abandoned sofas, British automobiles, Northshore Psychiatric Hospitals, Gerber Baby Dolls, locked coffins, human time bombs, Fulbright scholarships, stonewalled detectives, LensCrafters Profiles, doctors, bankers, lawyers, psychiatrists, and Jacob Amato Jr.! Needless to say, this is the perfect time of the season to revisit the late Bill Elder's intrepid investigations into secret Louisiana devil cults...

HAPPY 143rd BIRTHDAY, BELA LUGOSI!

On what would have been Bela Lugosi's 143rd birthday, I urge you to check out my Rondo Award-nominated novel BELA LUGOSI'S DEAD (Crossroad Press, 2021), the ideal read for Spooky Season! A five-star Amazon review described BELA LUGOSI'S DEAD as "perfect reading for October." Who am I to disagree?

Back in 2021, Adam Sayne and Serfiel Stevenson of the CONSPIRINORMAL podcast interviewed me about BELA LUGOSI'S DEAD, focusing on Lugosi's relationship with esotericism and Manly P. Hall. You can hear that entire interview on YouTube:

Conspirinormal 372- Robert Guffey 4 (Bela Lugosi's Dead)

And if you're not completely Lugosied out by that point, why not check out the Rondo Award-nominated nonfiction book I co-authored with Gary D. Rhodes, BELA LUGOSI AND THE MONOGRAM NINE (BearManor Media, 2019)? This is an in-depth analysis of the nine Poverty Row films in which Lugosi starred during World War II. You can hear Gary and I discussing this book at great length during the October 22, 2019 episode of Roejen Razorwire's PROJECT ARCHIVIST.

Bigfoot Endorses THE EXPECTANT MOTHER DISINFORMATION HANDBOOK!

Happy National Cryptid Day! For obvious reasons, this is an appropriate occasion to share the below photographs with you. As you can see with your own eyes, even Bigfoot is pleasantly stunned by the contents of my Wonderland Award-nominated book, THE EXPECTANT MOTHER DISINFORMATION HANDBOOK (Madness Heart Press, 2024). Surprisingly, the Sasquatch people make three separate appearances in this comprehensive guidebook for the recently impregnated. No vital subject (including cryptids) remains overlooked in this useful tome. Yes, a panoply of werewolves, sea serpents, and Bat Boys also pop up from time to time. Even more wondrous manifestations of the strange and the supernatural await you in the hermetic pages of THE EXPECTANT MOTHER DISINFORMATION HANDBOOK! If you want to see why Bigfoot and his kith and kin are so excited about this unique book, order a copy or two for yourself by clicking HERE... or HERE!!!

Chaos and Confusion at Camp Pendleton

From Ben Fox's 10-18-25 POLITICO article entitled "Vance Presides Over Traffic-halting Display of Military Power in California":

CAMP PENDLETON, California — JD Vance delivered a pep talk to the Marine Corps amid a massive display of military firepower Saturday that prompted California authorities to shut down one of the busiest stretches of highway in the nation.

The vice president made no mention of the “No Kings” protests that erupted around the nation that same day, including one that drew tens of thousands of people to nearby San Diego, and avoided politics except for a swipe at Democrats over the shutdown and at diversity initiatives.

“When officials try to shift focus, to mandating diversity quotas, where they try to inject partisan politics into the American armed forces, they impede the Marine Corps’ ability to do its best work,” Vance told several thousand troops gathered to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Marine Corps. “That’s why the Secretary of war, and the President of the United States, have stood so firmly against that crap.”

The event, a full-throated love letter to the Marine Corps, featured a rare display of military might — a mock amphibious assault on a beach just north of San Diego that involved aircraft, ships and live howitzer fire that prompted Gov. Gavin Newsom to close busy Interstate 5, the main artery of Southern California.

Newsom, a frequent critic of the administration and a likely presidential contender in 2028, said in a statement that the prospect of 155-millimeter howitzer projectiles soaring over the highway from the beach could distract drivers on the busy stretch of highway and pose a safety hazard. He also suggested Trump had scheduled the event to intimidate opponents.

“Using our military to intimidate people you disagree with isn’t strength — it’s reckless, it’s disrespectful, and it’s beneath the office he holds,” the governor said. “Law and order? This is chaos and confusion.”

From Richard Pollina's 10-15-25 NEW YORK POST article entitled "Dad of US Marine Arrested, Deported by ICE After Visiting Pregnant Daughter at Military Base":

A US Marine said his father was deported after both his parents were detained last month by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents while at Camp Pendleton in California.

Steve Rios told NBC 7 that his parents, Esteban Rios and Luisa Rodriguez, were picking up his pregnant younger sister, Ashley, and her husband, who is also a Marine, at the enormous West Coast base on Sept. 28 — just like they had done every weekend for the past few months while expecting their first grandchild.

But this time, Rios said, his parents were stopped at the gate and held for ICE agents, who detained them.

They were released a few hours later with ankle monitors and picked up by their son, who said they were instructed to check in with the agency later that week.

When Rios drove them to their check-in appointment a few days later, he said, they waited for hours before being detained again.

“I just kept on looking at my parents. I didn’t know if it would be the last time I’d see them,” the young Marine said.

Rios shared that his father was wearing a red shirt and a white hat, both of which said “Proud dad of a US Marine,” when he was taken away and deported by ICE agents.

THE FARM: "Mormon Wars: Trump, Trafficking, SRA, and the Kirk Assassination"

I highly recommend checking out the 10-6-25 episode of Steven Snider's THE FARM PODCAST (entitled "Mormon Wars: Trump, Trafficking, SRA, and the Kirk Assassination"), which includes an impressive amount of valuable information, particularly when Snider begins delving into the enigmatic George Zinn about halfway through the show. Celebrate Halloween... in CRYPTOPOLIS!

As that devilish holiday, All Hallows' Eve, rapidly descends upon us once again, why not take this opportunity to curl up with a tome that PUBLISHERS WEEKLY describes as "not for the faint of heart"? Yes, why not inoculate yourself against the increasing madness of our times with an even greater amount of unhinged lunacy? That strategy seems perfectly logical to me, and I'm sure it'll seem perfectly logical to you as well after you've imbibed a few of the mind-distorting, poisonous treats hidden between the ominous covers of my debut short story collection, CRYPTOPOLIS & OTHER STORIES, released by Lethe Press early last year. The peculiar tales in this volume have been compared to the works of Jorge Luis Borges, William S. Burroughs, Samuel R. Delany, Franz Kafka, H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Clark Ashton Smith, and Robert Anton Wilson!
If you'd like to experience precisely what these critics are talking about, consider buying a copy of CRYPTOPOLIS & OTHER STORIES just in time for Halloween!!!

One of the tales in CRYPTOPOLIS, "Initiation," was recently adapted by StarShipSofa! If you want to hear Doni Nicoll-Duir's evocative reading of "Initiation," click HERE!

You can hear me talking about the secret origins of CRYPTOPOLIS & OTHER STORIES on several different podcasts and radio shows including Tarek Al-Ubaidi's CROPfmSeriah Azkath's WHERE DID THE ROAD GO?Solaris Blueraven's HYPERSPACEMatthew Hopewell's THE AP STRANGE SHOWand Chris Mathieu's FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE NEWS.

Here's what a pack of raving maniacs have to say about CRYPTOPOLIS & OTHER STORIES...

PRAISE FOR CRYPTOPOLIS & OTHER STORIES:

"The stories in Cryptopolis feel like the bloody, star-filled lovechildren of Burroughs and Delany, with each tale ostensibly one part of a greater whole; abstract limbs and organs tethered together by strained flesh. Cryptopolis will take readers on a hallucinogenic journey through worlds fractured by time and place—slipping through liminal dimensions with seamless abandon to unveil unsettling illusions and heartbreaking realities—and totally worth the trip."

--Philip Fracassi, author of Boys in the Valley

"If you're tired of the same wines and you're curious about the vintage only just whispered about, have a deep draught of Robert Guffey's CryptopolisYou don't have to descend with Fortunato to the deepest cellars to find this bottle of Amontillado. Here it is! If Poe collaborated with Robert Anton Wilson...if Borges had a lovechild with Lovecraft, which was subsequently adopted by Kafka...you might get Cryptopolis. I think too that Clark Ashton Smith would admire this collection. Written with the obsessive precision of a mysterious staircase descending into the abyss, Cryptopolis will take you to strange epiphanies..."

--John Shirley, author of The Feverish Stars

"Once upon a time, weird and speculative fiction had an underground full of stories that were not written as calling cards or as film treatments or as extended internet memes. Guffey's tales resist genre gentrification; they move into your mind to turn it into a punk house squat!"

--Nick Mamatas, author of Move Under Ground and The Second Shooter

"In Cryptopolis & Other Stories, Guffey's free-ranging intellect meshes wonderfully with his command of the language."

--John Oakes, author of The Fast

"Guffey brings together 25 horror shorts that swing wildly between terrifying mindtrips and gritty realism. Throughout, Guffey’s blunt prose lends a sense of normalcy to the fantastic as his cast of losers from all walks of life face the cruelties of their existence—sexual violence, drugs, war, parenthood, and poverty [...]. Though not for the faint of heart, this bizarre and over-the-top collection is sure to thrill devotees of weird fiction."

--Publishers Weekly

"Cryptopolis may end up being a gateway drug into Robert Guffey’s work. I don’t use that term spuriously. So many of Guffey’s stories in Cryptopolis have a hard-bitten edge and gritty feel to them that I could see him crafting a metatext about an author whose books are physically addictive. Across the collection’s twenty-five stories and vignettes, Guffey displays a range of interests and foci with such depth and heart that I wouldn’t be surprised if he became one of my favorite modern writers [...].

"Affect, the experience of emotional response, seems to be at issue in every one of Guffey’s offerings. From the opening eponymous story (which is the only outright Lovecraftian story in the collection), with its resonances of love as a torturous paralytic, to the last, 'Esthra, Shadows, Glass, Silence,' a parable of alternate lives and lost possibilities, the emotional response drawn from the reader appears to be the crux of every piece. These stories are engines designed to make the reader feel."

--Géza A. G. Reilly, Dead Reckonings

"If you want a walk on the wild side, and I mean WILD, Robert Guffey’s fiction delivers that and more. It’s as if you’re lying in the grass in a park on a calm summer afternoon, you look up, and a creature you can’t even describe is looking at you. He starts talking in an even voice. But his words are chopping reality to pieces, and when he puts the pieces back together again, and you see the new picture, you feel a need to call the police. But then you realize you’re in a new place where the last people you want to talk to are the cops. What do you do now? You’re on your own. You better have strong resources. Very strong."

DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE

The clock is ticking on your chance to check out The Long Beach Playhouse's inventive stage adaptation of DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE directed by David Scaglione. In his bestselling 1969 novel, THE FRENCH LIEUTENANT'S WOMAN, John Fowles identified Robert Louis Stevenson's lurid novella as the linchpin text of the 1800s: "This—the fact that every Victorian had two minds—is the one piece of equipment we must always take with us on our travels back to the nineteenth century [...]. This, I think, makes the best guidebook to the age very possibly Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Behind its latterday Gothick lies a very profound and epoch-revealing truth." Jeffrey Hatcher's script for this stage adaptation, which succeeds in evoking the grand guignol seediness of Stevenson's original 1886 story, offers clever new twists on the Victorian obsession with extreme polarities. The artful choice to employ contemporary music as the play's backing score seems to hint at the notion that not much has changed in the human psyche since the late 1880s. Far too many of us still behave like Victorians at heart, which is why contemporary audiences continue to be enthralled by Dr. Jekyll's never-ending internal struggle. The Long Beach Playhouse will be presenting four more performances of DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE on its Mainstage on October 11th (8:00 p.m.), October 12th (2:00 p.m.), October 17th (8:00 p.m.), and October 18th (8:00 p.m.). Don't miss it!
