More Camp Pendleton Skulduggery

Readers of my 2015 book, CHAMELEO, will know why San Diego's Camp Pendleton has been of such intense interest to me since 2003. I've catalogued examples of High Strangeness at Camp Pendleton in these previous CRYPTOSCATOLOGY posts:

Four Marines Killed in Camp Pendleton Explosion (11-13-13).

Mysterious Murder of a Camp Pendleton Marine (9-22-16).

Borderline Shooting (11-25-18).

Camp Pendleton Suicide Ruling Disputed By Family (4-2-19).

More Camp Pendleton Shenanigans (9-21-19).

WASHINGTON POST: "Three Active-duty Marines with Intelligence Jobs Charged in Jan. 6 Breach" (1-22-23).

During the past few weeks, Camp Pendleton has managed to find itself in the news again.

From Richard Winton's 6-14-23 LOS ANGELES TIMES article entitled "Camp Pendleton Marine and Accomplice Charged with Firebombing Costa Mesa Planned Parenthood":

FBI agents and naval investigators arrested an active duty U.S. Marine and his alleged accomplice Wednesday on federal charges of firebombing a Costa Mesa Planned Parenthood clinic last year.

Chance Brannon, 23, of San Juan Capistrano, a Marine stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, and Tibet Ergul, 21, of Irvine are accused of being the two masked and hooded individuals who tossed a Molotov cocktail March 13, 2022, igniting a blaze. Both were taken into custody without incident early Wednesday and were slated to appear in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana later in the day.

Ergul and Brannon are named in a criminal complaint that charges each with using an explosive or fire to damage real property affecting interstate commerce. The charge carries a statutory maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.

From Bill Feather and Dave Summers' 7-6-23 NBCSanDiego.com report entitled "Family Says Missing Girl Located in Camp Pendleton Barracks, Marine Questioned by NCIS":

An underage girl from the Spring Valley area, reported missing by her family on June 10, was found last week inside the barracks at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, according to the girl's family.

The girl has learning disabilities and was found in the barracks June 28 by military police, according to the aunt.

San Diego County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Lt. David LaDieu told NBC 7 that the only involvement their department had was recovering the juvenile because she was listed as missing from their jurisdiction.

A photo shared on social media earlier this week showed a handcuffed Marine being escorted by military police on base on June 28. Captain Chuck Palmer of Camp Pendleton-based 1st Marine Logistics Group confirmed a Marine was taken into custody and questioned by NCIS about his involvement with the girl.

"We can confirm that a Marine with Combat Logistics Battalion 5, 1st Marine Logistics Group was taken into custody for questioning by Naval Criminal Investigative Services on June 28, 2023, as seen on social media July 2, 2023," Captain Palmer told NBC 7. "The incident is under investigation, and we will continue to cooperate with NCIS and appropriate authorities."

The Marine, who has not been identified or officially charged as of Thursday, remains in the custody of his command, according to Palmer.

“The security looked her in the face and allowed this man to bring a minor on to base," the girl's aunt, Cassandra Perez, said. "Due to her age, she could not have given this consent.”
