CHAMELEO Makes Its Spanish Debut!

I'm very pleased to announce that my third book, CHAMELEO: A STRANGE BUT TRUE STORY OF INVISIBLE SPIES, HEROIN ADDICTION, AND HOMELAND SECURITY, ten years old as of last April, is being released in Spain in its first foreign translation. The translator, Elías Ortigosa Román, told me it was a "challenging" job (I don't doubt it) that taught him things he'd never known about such disparate topics as government surveillance, esoteric Masonic terminologies, and cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs. He said the book made him rethink a lot of basic assumptions. It was fun trying to explain certain American colloquialisms so Elías could figure out how best to capture the essence of the original meanings (a favorite question: "What did Noel mean when he said, 'Nice dick there'?"). The publisher and I tried to figure out the best way to translate the title into Spanish, which was a difficult task, but I deemed the end result to be more than appropriate. After all, PARANOIA was the name of the magazine in which I published my first article way back in 1996 (thanks to Joan d'Arc and the late Al Hidell, the founders of PARANOIA MAGAZINE). I'm quite happy with the final cover, which was sent to me just yesterday. This new edition of CHAMELEO is scheduled to be published by Yonki Books in Spain on July 25th, and further foreign translations could very well be looming on the horizon...
